Project Description

Nsolv is a patented, Canadian oil sands technology which uses warm solvent to extract higher value oil in a dramatically cleaner and more economically competitive manner than current steam based methods. This in-situ technology is based on circulating a hydrocarbon solvent in an underground heavy oil reservoir using low risk and proven equipment. Nsolv operates at a safe pressure, consumes no water, produces less waste material with no tailings, and generates 75% fewer greenhouse gases.

Nsolv’s oil sands extraction technology has the power to revolutionize how oil is extracted from the oil sands and is majority owned by Hatch. In association with Enbridge Inc. and the Nenniger family, who developed the initial concept, these parties have come together to develop and pilot the technology over the last decade. In 2014, after substantial effort and private investment, Nsolv constructed a field test facility on Suncor property outside of Fort McMurray, Alberta. This facility has since produced over 100,000 barrels of oil safely and efficiently.
